It's a New Year, Help End Hunger by 2015!
Happy New Year from the Good Food Gardens!
In September of 2009, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Good Food Gardens, and then built our 11th and 12th new gardens so quickly we hardly had time to celebrate our growth, and the message you’ve all helped us to spread:
Good Food Is for Everyone!
From the very first Good Food Garden, launched at Slow Food Nation in San Francisco in 2008, to the most recent which stands on a rooftop terrace in the heart of Harlem, our gardens are thriving, helping kids and families cultivate healthier, more food secure environments. And you’ve helped us grow! Thank you.
You may have heard us say this before, but after 8 years working with Share Our Strength, this fact still shocks me:
More than 12.4 million children in America are at risk of hunger.
A lack of nutritious food can have lifelong physical and mental consequences on children. For many families, fresh fruits and vegetables are hard to find and expensive, which is why the mission of the Good Food Gardens is so important. Providing education on the importance of fruits and vegetables to families, schools and community leaders is central to the goal of the Good Food Gardens. Through the support of the leadership on the ground, each garden provides experiences and inspiration to establish healthy eating habits for life.
Share Our Strength and Obama are committed to ending childhood hunger by 2015. Good Food Gardens are one small step toward ending hunger. We’re growing (pun intended), but we still need your help. First, we need to keep bringing healthy food to the communities that need it most. We also need your voice to share the message:
No Kid Hungry.
We need Good Food Gardens Ambassadors dedicated to bringing healthy foods to the people that need it most through access, education and inspiration. We need you.
Good Food is everyone’s right. Help us break down the barriers that prevent access for all people, and plant a seed today that will nurture tomorrow. Here’s to good heath!

Where can a future ambassador sign-up? I know several places in my area that are in great need of a garden. Can SOS help support my community needs?
